We’ll discuss where and how you can actually intervene and innovate to make an impact. Following the Localization seminar there will be a live Q&A period with Steve Lee to answer any questions about Session 1 or 2.

Session 3

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all". The SDGs were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by the year 2030. They are included in a UN Resolution called the 2030 Agenda or what is colloquially known as Agenda 2030. The SDGs follow and expand on the Millennium Development Goals which ended in 2015.

Meet your Speakers

  • Steve Lee

Steve S.J. Lee is a strategy consultant who spent 12 years on sustainable development, climate change, and meaningful youth engagement as a campaigner, policy advocate, and entrepreneur. Steve was the Organizing Partner leading the Major Group for Children and Youth (MGCY) and its 26 constituencies that represent the voice of children and youth in over 120 policy processes at the United Nations. Steve started as a 16-year-old child rights advocate through UNICEF.

Before joining MGCY, Steve served as the Executive Director of Foundation for Environmental Stewardship, a youth-led, youth-serving Canadian charity he founded. Steve spent three years listening to the voices of over 100,000 young Canadians in person. He drove 160,000 km to over 500 schools in more than 400 towns and helped students undertake more than a hundred local projects. Steve visited mostly rural and remote communities all across Canada from coast to coast to coast to weave the voices of youth from places most left behind.

Steve is a Certified Fund Raising Executive, a Clean16 and Clean50 winner as Canada’s leader in sustainability, a Top 30 Under 30 in Sustainability by Corporate Knights, and a Finalist of UN SDG Action Award. Steve was the Partner of RevIT² Solutions, a market research consulting firm for private investment firms, and the CEO of Steve’s Guidebook, a publishing company for university-level calculus and biology study guides. Steve has a science degree from the University of Toronto and plays the clarinet.

  • Kat Cadungog

Kat (she/her) is the Executive Director of the Foundation for Environmental Stewardship (FES). Kat’s main focus is building The Youth Harbour, a youth-for-youth climate support system focused on supporting youth climate leaders with financial, technical, and networking support to amplify and scale their work, so far raising $1.51M dollars for the project. She supported the expansion of growth of the SDGs training program to now over 90+ schools across Canada, the US, and the UK, and worked on over 50 community action projects in high schools.

Kat is a Future of Good Young Impact 2022 Leader, Clean50 nominees, and Corporate Knights Top 30 under 30. She was one of the 40 leaders invited to the first ever Ditchley Energy and Climate Summit in the UK, and attended multiple other conferences such as COP27, the Globe Forum, Imagine Canada Leadership Roundtable, among other high-level conferences. Kat volunteers as a Global Shaper in Calgary and with the Calgary Climate Hub. She has worked on a diversity of projects from volunteering at Calgary Legal Guidance, presenting systems research on the national pharmacare, or co-founding literacy campaigns. Kat is passionate about empowering youth to take impactful action on sustainable development, strengthening and amplifying the youth *force* in the Canadian climate movement. In her spare time, you can find her mountain biking or hiking, or making public declarations that she will give up coffee.

  • Jessica LeBlanc

Jess (she/her) is your go-to girl for everything SDGs LAB and her passion for youth empowerment and sustainability exudes through everything she executes at FES. Studying International Development and Social Entrepreneurship in both Canada (Wilfrid Laurier University) and Europe (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia), the SDGs are part of her educational foundation, giving her insights on communicating wicked problems to youth in engaging and inspiring ways.

Before joining FES, Jess lived in Costa Rica, working in cross-cultural and experiential education programs for youth. She is an avid advocate for empowering youth to be change-makers through out-of-the-box, grassroots, educational experiences; a professional and personal passion that has led her all over the world to pursue. Whether it is introducing peace and conflict resolution workshops into the Canadian elementary curriculum, connecting youth with grassroots NGOs that address the SDGs in Costa Rica, or participating in wildlife conservation advocacy work in Malawi, Jess loves creating and facilitating powerful educational experiences for youth and believes in the positive impact that this youth engagement can have on our collective pursuit for a sustainable future.
